About Chuck Rylant

Chuck J. Rylant, Financial Planner

Chuck Rylant brings his client a unique combination of financial expertise and street-smart intelligence. He has accumulated more education, experience and credentials than most financial advisors.

But he has also acquired street smarts - literally - as a police officer and as a detective who investigates identity theft and other white collar crimes. And he's a family man who knows all about juggling a public service paycheck with time out for education, young children and a meaningful life.

"I have been fascinated with money and investing since my high school days. When I was 18 years old, I wanted to be a stock broker -- till I realized that job was all about selling. Even back then, I wanted to help people manage their investments."

Don't believe what you see on the Cops TV show.

Chuck became a police officer after completing high school. He believes this career actually has helped him become a better financial planner. Police work calls for using a lot of psychology. Modern police learn to think in terms of customer service. "And you learn an awful lot about people and families - the good as well as the bad," he says.

I want to use my financial knowledge to help people - not just sell to them.

Chuck continued to maintain his interest in finance. He began creating his own investment portfolio while working full-time as a police officer. As friends and family began to ask for help, they too began to achieve their goals.

"I found myself helping other cops with their investments and their taxes, often over the hood of a police car in the middle of the night, on 20-minute breaks, in a parking lot."

Chuck wanted to serve even more clients without becoming a salesperson. He discovered and customized a service program based on an ongoing relationship with a retainer based on professional fees.

"I had to apply advanced financial techniques to develop my own career."

Chuck resigned from law enforcement to return to school full time to get an MBA and complete the Certified Financial Planner program. He continued support a family with a baby on the way -- with no wealthy parents or guardian angels.

Today his credentials include:

  • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™
  • MBA, Orfalea School of Business, Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
  • BS, University of LaVerne, California
  • Graduate, Certified Financial Planner Program, College for Financial Planning
  • Registered Investment Advisor (California)
  • CTEC Registered Tax Preparer

Chuck holds membership in NAPFA, FPA and the Alliance of Cambridge Advisors (ACA). These organizations offer him a way to remain current and offer state-of-the-art advice in today's fast-paced financial environment.

Chuck continues to work as a detective with a police force on the Central Coast of California. He is married with two children under 12. He loves to travel and he has enjoyed trips to China, Brazil and many places in Mexico.
